The Koç School Covid-19 Updates

After the World Health Organization declared an “global health emergency” on January 30, 2020 due to the epidemic which was called the New Coronavirus at that time, Koç School Emergency Management was put in place to ensure the safety of the entire Koç School Family. Our emergency preparation, precautions and practices are carried out regarding data, suggestions and opinions of our various stakeholders like VKF Health Institutions, Koç Holding and official institutions (Turkish Ministry of Health, Turkish Ministry of National Education, World Health Organization). On this page you can find detailed information about The Koç School’s announcements about Covid-19 and emergency processes.

Covid-19 was first appeared in Wuhan, China in December 2019, with the announcement that the findings of lung infection (pneumonia) were detected in people working in an animal selling market and visiting there in same days. As a result of examining the samples taken from the patients, it was understood that the virus causing the disease was from the family of Koronavirus such as SARS (2002) and MERS (2012) and the virus was called New Coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV). Its name was updated to Covid-19 on February 11, 2019.

The disease is characterized by high fever (39 degrees and above), cough and shortness of breath that begins suddenly after an incubation period of 2-14 days. Some patients have also had sore throat and nose flow. The disease generally shows a moderate to severe clinical course. The majority of people who are seriously ill and die are older people (> 65), people with underlying diseases (lung diseases, organ failure, cancer, diabetes, immune suppressing diseases). As of March 25th, there are 416,686 cases from Covid-19 and 18,589 patients who have lost their lives.
