In The Koç School, Middle School Social Sciences Department is composed of Social Sciences and Religion and Ethics lessons. Ministry of Education curriculum is applied in both lessons. The topics are covered with the support of in-class activities and technology in a student-centered manner.
The main aim of the social sciences lessons is to raise individuals who have acquired the knowledge and skills of social sciences, who love their country and nation, who know their rights and use them, who fulfill their responsibilities, who has a national consciousness, and who comprehends the value of Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions in the social, cultural and economic development of the Republic of Turkey.
The main aim of the Religion and Ethics lesson is to provide accurate information about religion to the new generation and to raise their awareness in line with Atatürk’s vision of secularism.
The departmental lessons are conducted in the social sciences classrooms. The visual materials, maps and technological equipment in these classrooms make it easier for the students to learn. The Social Sciences Department, which work towards academic and social development of students, aims to benefit our students through departmental activities such as “Historians of The Future Essay Writing Contest”, “Social Sciences Culture Week”, “History & Culture Day” and activities like “Koç Scholars Academy”, “Book Week” and by ensuring interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments in many ceremonies. Also, our “Story of Civilizations” club plays an active role in bringing an important architectural work from history to the school campus every year. School trips to other cities are organized for each grade level to reinforce the information taught in class.
As the Social Sciences Department; while we prepare our students during a period of four years for the high school’s history and geography education, we raise them with all their accomplishments as the 21st century’s contemporary individuals who have adopted Atatürk’s principles and reforms, grasped the Turkish history and culture, are equipped with basic democratic values, who respect human rights, are sensitive to the environment they live in, who are active in social life, and know their rights and responsibilities.
